Greetings Box - the 2010/11 Winners

In the three months since its invention, the Group 7 Greetings box has been presented by 36 Rotarians to nine different Rotary clubs.

The clear winner of the competition for points is the Whiteley Rotary Club who, having discovered the rule allowing snatching, snatched the box from the club that held it immediately before one of their planned club visits. Whiteley finished with a staggering 39 points to their nearest rival's 28.

So well done Whiteley Rotary!
And well done Fareham Meon who came second.

The Greetings box starts the new Rotary year with a clean scoresheet, and all Group 7 clubs deemed unvisited and terra nullis.

Year of 2010/2011

"Rotary year starting July 2010 will be a good one." predicts AG John Worley after meeting Group 7 presidents elect.

"Enthusiasm and a keenness to help each other were a feature of their first joint meeting".

Many clubs now find they need help from their neighbours to complete their chosen tasks in the community. Perhaps this space will help them do that.

Fund Raising Projects

I am concious that within every Rotary club in group 7 there is a busy band of Rotarians setting up fund raising projects. We all tend to work by ourselves, we don't share the information or expertise that we build up.

If something works, or even fails would it not be better to build a list of projects with a brief description details of success or failure, contact details etc.

This type of list could help us all as we could learn from each other. We can learn as much from failures as we can success.

A simple example. We had run a christmas grotto at Wyevale in Havant for several years. This had worked well and everyone enjoyed doing it. A couple of years ago we added a collection at the front door which can be run by one person. last year we raised more money on the collection that we did from the grotto. Perhaps everyone else does it that way but if another club can benefit I'm happy to share.

let me know what you think.

Good Talk

Dr Celia Clark gave us an excellent presentation on why Portsmouth Harbour ought to be made a World Heritage Site. Clubs surrounding Portsmouth Harbour need to hear this. Ask me for Celia's address. John Worley - Portsmouth & Southsea
P.S. Celia's proposal made more topical by Portsmouth Football people wanting to put 2000 flats and 50,000 football fans in the harbour!
